If you're looking for a dreamy beach holiday, one of the best destinations to help you escape the hustle and bustle of the city are the Islands of the Bahamas. Life in the islands runs at a leisurely pace, so if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature's gifts, this could be your great escape. The Bahamas, best known for its clear water and its white and pink sandy beaches, is also home to the world's third largest reef barrier and the largest breeding colony of West Indian flamingo. On the list of your must dos, don't forget to include a trip to the Lucayan National Park, in Grand Bahama, which boasts of the longest underwater cave system.
Natural beauty apart, the Bahamas is also a shopper's paradise. Visit Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas, to check out the Straw market where you can buy fabulous handmade products. There are many ways to reach the Bahamas, including by air and sea. You can enjoy a ride from one island to another on a ferry or a mail-boat from Nassau, while on the island you can use the bus system, scooters, bicycles, private cars or taxis. The best time to visit would be from September to May when the temperature rises to around 70-75 degree F. Beware of potential health dangers, the most common being sun burns, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, diarrhoea, tetanus or jelly fish stings.
International cuisine is largely available but the mouth watering local seafood and their famous cocktails are a must. Bring along comfortable summer wear and a sweater for evenings. Men should carry a jacket as some of the restaurants or casinos follow a dress code. We hope we've made your choice to vacation in the Bahamas a lot easier. Enjoy a wonderful holiday in one of the most welcoming and exotic places in the world.
